COSMED is an Italian Company manufacturing Cardio Pulmonary Diagnostic Equipment. COSMED products are aimed for either professional or medical use for many different applications like: Hospital, Clinics, Primary Care, University & Education in Human Physiology, Clinical Nutrition, Commercial Weight Management, Human Performance Centers, Sport Institutions and Health Club Industry. Currently, COSMED products range from a complete range of spirometers (PC-based, desktop, hand-held and stationary) to modular Pulmonary Function equipment and Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Testing systems, Gold Standard Body Composition, ECGs, Ergometers and Software.
Founded in 1980 and based in Rome, Italy, the company actively started developing new products soon after being incorporated. COSMED started growing rapidly in the early 80s thanks to the development of innovative portable electronic spirometers. This equipment enjoyed success in Europe and in the Far East thanks to important OEM agreements. The late nineties saw a real boost for the company thanks to the development of the first portable metabolic measurement device, the K4. Protected by several international patents, the K4 rapidly become the best selling equipment for in-the-field measurement of oxygen consumption among Universities, Sport Science and Research centers.
In 2003 the company enjoyed huge investments in the development of new products and an enormous growth in company infrastructure by more than doubling office and manufacturing space. A major new division of COSMED expanding investment into the Weight Management and Fitness industry was established during 2005 with the introduction of the FITMATE product, offering affordable and user-friendly metabolic measurement capability to the Health and Wellness industry.
In 2011, COSMED USA, Inc. completed acquisition of Life Measurement, Inc. (LMI), a leading provider of body composition assessment equipment in infants, children and adults with its Gold Standard systems: BOD POD and PEA POD.

Location

COSMED headquarters are located in Pavona di Albano in the province of Rome (Italy), together with the manufacturing plant and warehouses. In Italy, COSMED is also present with representative offices in Milan, Venice, Naples, Ferrara.

In April 2001 COSMED incorporated COSMED USA, Inc., a subsidiary based in Chicago (IL) to manage distribution in the North American territory. After the acquisition of LMI Inc. in 2011, COSMED USA adds a new office in Concord (CA).

COSMED representative offices are also in China (Guangzhou/Canton) and in Germany (Sundern, close to Dortmund).

COSMED now distributes its products both directly and internationally through a specialist distributor network covering over 60 countries.

COSMED is a privately owned company. Since its foundation, sales figures have been growing significantly. In the last years, average growth rate was of 15/20% yearly. Total revenues reached more than 12 million Euros in 2008 and despite current financial crisis firsts 2 quarters shows increase of sales of more than 20%.

Leadership

COSMED is among the most long-established companies in the cardiopulmonary diagnostics market. Its history has been characterized by innovative products and technological “firsts” in the market. COSMED quality is known all over the world. Wherever possible, products are designed and redesigned to meet the different quality and safety standards required to market products worldwide. They meet the CE mark, IEC 601-1/EN 60 601-1 and FDA 510(K) clearance market. In 1995 the company launched the ISO 9001 Quality program, successfully achieving certification in November 1997.
