New Fitmate PRO validation for the prediction of VO2max from sub-maximal testing
The main purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the Cosmed Fitmate for the prediction of maximal oxygen consumption through a submaximal exercise testing.
Fitmate predicts VO2max based upon the linear regression between HR and measured VO2, and extrapolation of HR to age-predicted maximal HR. The Fitmate results were compared with VO2max, measured by the Douglas bag (DB) method during a maximal treadmill graded exercise testing (GXT)
The conclusions show that "measuring submaximal VO2 with the Fitmate, rather than predicting it from the ACSM metabolic equations, improves the prediction of VO2max. Submaximal testing is valuable for assessing VO2max in situations where it is not be feasible to have individuals perform a maximal GXT."
